The hides produced in the northeast area of the United States come mostly from dairy breeds. The grain quality is similar to that of hides produced in Ohio and Wisconsin despite the heavy snow because most of these animals are housed in barns during the winter months.

Many veal and cooler calf skins are produced in this area because of the large number of dairy farms located there.

Few English breeds are raised in this area.

Most of the beef and veal slaughter in the northeast occurs in northern Pennsylvania and New York.
